Ostrężnik Castle

SD/HD Mute

It was, or rather was supposed to be, our first castle on The Trail of the Eagles’ Nests. It’s on the map and on the castles list, but we didn’t read the description that said how much was left of it. After arriving at the hill covered with trees it turned out that there’s just a bit of the foundations left. A bit of a disappointment, but we decided to upload the video anyway, to show the Trail in its entirety.

Not much is known about this castle and its history remains a great mystery for the historians. According to latest archaeological excavations it was built in the early 14th century. How it was destroyed – nobody knows.

Attempts to reconstruct it on paper show a large and tall castle with 2 m high and 144 m wide walls and a moat. The area within the walls was approx. 1500 sqm. The lack of historical references lead to many legends regarding its establishment. But you have to find them for yourselves :)
