It’s the third biggest castle in Poland and one of my favourite (Ania here). It’s located on Piast Castles Trail. It’s a pity that only part of it is open to public.
The castle dates back to 13th century. It’s hard to tell you all about it (it’s a long and turbulent story) and we surely do not wanna do it :) 30 Years’ War had the biggest impact on its appearance, since then it was plundered and damaged multiple times. Reconstruction was ordered in 18th century. New wing was added in the beginning of 20th century. Then, the palaces with fountains were renovated, a Japanese garden was added along with a greenhouse in Lubiechów.
What’s interesting – it was one of Adolf Hitler’s headquarters with tunnels and an underground shelter. When it returned to Poland after World War II, Russians plundered it. In 1974, renovation process started. Since 1991, Wałbrzych commune owns it.
There rest is in the video.
