Castle in Świny

SD/HD Mute

When I’m thinking about a perfect spot to film a horror movie, this castle is the place I see. The vibe here is amazing. Just look at these iron doors. It must be haunted :) It’s a pity that the interior didn’t make it through the ages.

It’s one of the oldest castles on the The Piast Castles Trail. Supposedly it was connected with a nearby castle in Bolków by underground tunnels. In the beginning it was just a castle-town, then a military castle and since 17th century, a residential castle. It had several owners, but it was the house of Świnek that owned it for the longest period (from 13th to 18th century). They transformed wooden fortifications into a stone tower in 15th century. It’s still there. In 15th century, they added a residential building and fortifications. The castle became a renaissance residence in 17th century. A rectangular palace was also added along with a drawbridge. Even though the castle survived many wars, Russian troops robbed it during Seven Years’ War (18th century) and it’s been falling to ruin ever since. It got hit by hurricanes, the tower fell, the roof got carried away and it burned. In the 30s of 20th century it was reconstructed a bit and the tower was covered with a roof.
